ACVSMR stands for the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, the specialty dedicated to helping athletic and working animals perform at their best while improving the quality of life for animals recovering from injury, surgery, or chronic conditions.
A veterinary resident is a licensed veterinarian who has chosen to pursue advanced specialty training. During residency, they work closely under the mentorship of a board-certified specialist (Diplomate) while gaining extensive hands-on experience in sports medicine, rehabilitation, diagnostics, and advanced treatment techniques. After successfully completing their residency, they are eligible to take rigorous board examinations to become a board-certified specialist themselves.
