Back Pain in the Equine Athlete: Diagnosis, Treatment & Management 

Meet the sixth speaker of the educational webinar series:

Dr. Marianne Marshall-Gibson, DVM, MS, CAC, cVMA

Dr. Marianne Marshall-Gibson developed her passion for horses while growing up on her parent’s barn in Illinois. Being a large, 54-stall Hunter/Jumper and Dressage barn, she was either taking care of horses, assisting veterinarians, or competing. Dr. Marshall-Gibson rode competitively throughout high school and college - while simultaneously earning her B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering-Biomaterials at the University of Illinois, and her M.S. in Biomedical Sciences-Cancer Biology at the University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus.

In 2010, Dr. Marshall-Gibson set out to earn her DVM degree, and was accepted into the program at Colorado State University. While pursuing her degree in veterinary medicine, she worked with members of the University’s Equine Sports Medicine and Equine Orthopedic Research team, and in her fourth year of veterinary school, she became certified in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture (cVMA).  

After graduating in 2014, Dr. Marshall-Gibson completed a one-year rotating internship at Steinbeck Country Equine Clinic in Salinas, California; followed by a Sports Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging Fellowship at Northwest Equine Performance in Mulino, Oregon. During this time, she also became certified in Animal Chiropractic (CAC) at the Animal Chiropractic Education Source in Meridian, Texas.

Dr. Marshall-Gibson’s professional interests include Sports Medicine and rehabilitation, lameness, diagnostic imaging, chiropractic, acupuncture, and laser therapy. She is licensed to practice in Colorado, Wyoming, California, and Washington State, serves as the on-site veterinarian for the Steamboat Springs PRCA Pro-Rodeo Series along with High Country Veterinary Services, and is very active in the veterinary community - serving as a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA).

In her free time, Dr. Marshall-Gibson enjoys camping, hiking, backpacking, home brewing, and wine making with her husband and two dogs, Barley and Abby Ale.
